New article published in Scientific Reports

JRC members Michael Lenz, Arne Schenk, and Andreas Schuppert published a paper on an epigenetic biomarker to support classification into pluripotent and non-pluripotent cells. The methylation study that identified three specific CpGs for pluripotency classification was conducted in cooperation with partners from the Helmholtz Institute for Biomedical Engineering of the RWTH Aachen. Paper published in Stem Cell Reports

JRC member Michael Lenz contributed to a publication on the epigenetic rejuvenation of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) derived from induced pluripotent stem cells. The study has been conducted in cooperation with partners from the Helmholtz Institute for Biomedical Engineering of the RWTH Aachen. It compares MSCs isolated from bone marrow with isogenic MSCs derived by in vitro reprogramming and subsequent differentiation of the former. Symposium organized by the JRC

One year after our opening ceremony, the JRC is organizing the 2-day symposium Computational Biomedicine for Translational Research. The symposium will provide a forum where industrial researchers and clinicians can meet and discuss with academic researchers from medicine, biology and computational sciences.

PhysioSpace paper published

JRC members Michael Lenz, Bernhard Schuldt and Andreas Schuppert and their collaborator Franz-Josef Müller have published PhysioSpace: Relating gene expression experiments from heterogeneous sources using shared physiological processes. The paper presents a new method to evaluate time series gene expression data from wet lab or clinical experiments in direct comparison to physiologically relevant expression patterns found in different organs and cell types. On October 9, 2013 the Joint Research Center for Computational Biomedicine at RWTH Aachen University has officially opened. We were honored to welcome Dr. Wieland from the Ministry for Schools and Education of North Rhine-Westphalia, Member of the Board of Bayer AG and CEO of Bayer Healthcare AG Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Plischke, CEO of Bayer Technology Services GmbH Dr. Dirk van Meirvenne, RWTH Rector Prof. Dr. Ernst Schmachtenberg and the Dean of RWTH's Medical School Prof. Dr. Stefan Uhlig at the ceremony that brought together members of the JRC, the RWTH medical and computational modeling community and researchers at our industrial partners at Bayer.
